Small businesses are big business for the City of Virginia Beach and a key component to creating a vibrant, successful, and global community. Throughout 2017​, the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development, in partnership with our business community, will continue to support the small business community by providing a series of free workshops.​

Space is limited - registr​​ation is required.  ​Workshop locations will vary based on the number of registrants.

National, Regional and Local Business Resources Workshop​

The workshop is scheduled for January 18, 2017 , from 10 a.m. - noon at the Virginia Beach Central Library.​

​Financing Your Dream – February 22, 2017  - 11a.m. – 1 p.m.

Gain knowledge on financing business ideas, capital needs and ventures.  Financial institutions throughout Hampton Roads will be on hand to guide you in the right direction to ​finance your dreams. It will be held at the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development office: 4525 Main Street, Suite 700, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Lunch will be served.

​American ​Red Cross ​Supplier Diversity – March 9, 2017  - 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. ​


(This workshop will include a one-on-one session.)

The Red Cross has a Supplier Diversity Program (SDP) designed to strengthen their organization and communities by proactively seeking woman, disabled, and minority business enterprises (WMBEs) who represent the communities they serve. ​ It will be held at the Student Center at Tidewater Community College (1700 College Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453). Lunch will be served. ​

Procurement Technical Assistance Program (​PTAP​) ​- April 19, 2017 – 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.​

(Proposal Writing and Capability Statement Development)

PTAP provides opportunities to learn  how to analyze and respond to RFPs, the advantages of priming and subcontracting opportunities, and assist with more intricate company-specific challenges including pricing and compliance questions. ​ It will be held at Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library (4100 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach).

Cox Communications and Supplier Diversity - June 21, 2017  - 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Actively seeking diverse suppliers is a goal of Cox Communications; achieving this goal creates business relationships that reflect the makeup of all Cox customers and potential customers​. It will be held at t​he Student Center at Tidewater Community College (1700 College Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453​). Lunch will be served. ​

SWaM Business Forum ​- September 21, 2017  - 9 a.m. -1​ p.m.​ – Sandler Center for the Performing Arts

(Health Care Industry and the Small Business Community​)

The goal of the SWaM Business Forum is to provide industry specific information to small businesses to assist them  in identifying the available opportunities/ resources in the Virginia Beach community and surrounding localities which will help grow and sustain their businesses.​​​  It will be held at Sandler Center for the Performing Arts (​201 Market Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23462).​​ Lunch will be served. ​​
